Continuation of anti-dumping order on carbon steel plate

USITC Cut-to-Length Carbon Steel Plate Import Rules

USITC recent decisions in a five-year sunset review of an anti-dumping duty order on cut-to-length carbon steel plate from China and the termination of suspended investigations into imports of the product into from Russia and Ukraine.

In its vote, the USITC said revoking the anti-dumping order on carbon steel plate from China “would likely result in the continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.”

It also voted to maintain existing suspension agreements for imports from Russia and Ukraine.

“Worker-centric” trade policy

Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative will present the Biden administration’s “worker-centric” trade policy at an AFL-CIO town hall meeting today.

The USTR today published excerpts from Tai’s remarks.

“We know that trade is essential to the proper functioning of the global economy,” says Tai. “It is clear, however, that past promises made to workers on trade have not been kept. Some sectors of the economy have performed well. But far too many communities and workers have been left behind.

CPI increases in May

The consumer price index (CPI) for all urban consumers increased by 0.6% in May, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported.

The gain follows a 0.8% jump in April.

“Over the past 12 months, the index for all components has increased by 5.0% before seasonal adjustment; this was the largest 12-month increase since a 5.4% increase for the period ending August 2008,” the BLS added.
