H13 is a hot working tool steel, which means that it retains high strength at high temperatures, and is known to exhibit excellent red hardness, thermal fatigue resistance, high toughness, ductility, good abrasion resistance and excellent through-hardenability. Because H13 can now be 3D printed, manufacturing professionals can start printing parts with unique and complex geometries, which would traditionally be very expensive and difficult to do. For example, printing an H13 injection mold with conformal cooling channels would more efficiently remove heat from the mold cavity and provide more even cooling, resulting in less part deformation, shorter cycle times and higher throughput, and ultimately, lower operating costs.
