The 650ml Elite Mia Stainless Steel Bottle is useful for everyday bike rides, fitting securely into a bottle cage, but it scratches easily and cannot be used with one hand.

While many people choose to use a metal bottle for drinking on a daily basis, in order to reduce their use of plastic, if you get around by bicycle it can create a puzzle as most metal bottles do not fit well in the bottle. bottle cages.

Elite tried to kill two birds with one stone with the Mia, which is made almost entirely from stainless steel, is 100% plastic-free – including the lid – and fits in a bottle cage.

I tried it in several different cages and it held up well on several surfaces, helped by the ridge around the top half of the bottle that matches the rim of most bottle cages.

While it sits securely in a bottle cage, it’s not particularly useful beyond commuting or short trips, as you need two hands to use it. It’s fine if you just want to take a drink, but it’s not really practical on a long hot walk where you have to stop, unclip, unscrew the cover, have a drink, put the cover back on, put it back in the cage, then start over, each time you want to use it.

There are still a lot of practical elements to like. Elite has included a silicone gasket in the lid, which prevents spills; he has a handle; and being made of stainless steel, it is very easy to clean and does not spoil your drinks.

A slight disappointment is that after a few weeks of travel, a few chips and scratches appear on the black areas of the bottle. It doesn’t impact how easy it is to use, but if you buy it partly for how it looks, it’s far from ideal. You also cannot buy it without coating (four colors are available – black, green, black and silver and beige and silver).

We haven’t looked at too many bottles like this on road.cc to compare, the closest being the Hydro Flask 18oz that Dave tested a few years ago. It’s now £ 29.95, but you can change the top (for an additional cost) so it can be used with one hand.

Overall, this isn’t a bottle I would choose for a long hot commute, but for everyday use and for moving a drink from your bottle cage to your desk, it works great; it fits securely in a bottle cage, it is easy to wash and does not affect the taste of your drink.

Verdict

An ecological water bottle that is useful for everyday use, but not the most practical for bicycle use
